What to Know When You are Applying for Jobs and Schools

Question: Do I need to report previous felony and misdemeanor charges on my juvenile delinquency records when I am applying for jobs or to schools?

Answer: It depends. This chart will help you understand if you need to report your juvenile delinquency record.

 

General Rule

Generally you do not need to report previous arrests. This means when asked, you may usually lawfully deny any previous criminal activity.

You cannot deny to:

  • A criminal justice agency
  • If you are a criminal defendant
  • The Florida Bar
  • The Department of Children and Families
  • The Department of Juvenile Justice
  • The Department of Education

My record has been sealed

Generally you do not need to report previous arrests. You may usually lawfully deny previous criminal activity.

The Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Advocacy Project provides representation to children through age 18 in Juvenile Court, Family Court and Probate Court. In addition, representation is provided before the School Board of Palm Beach County and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). The majority of children served are emotionally, developmentally or physically challenged. The project's goal is to access appropriate treatment and/or placement for these children.
