April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
KidSafe is on a mission to decrease these alarming statistics: 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 -- 90 percent of the time by someone they know and 68% of the time by a family member.
KidSafe Foundation Co-founder Cherie Benjoseph says: "95 percent of abuse and exploitation of children is preventable with education, yet our children are not receiving this education. Every 10 seconds a report of child abuse is made and KidSafe is on a mission to change these statistics by providing prevention education."
KidSafe has been taught to over 30,000 children throughout South Florida, and the founders have brought KidSafe seminars, workshops and training to thousands of adults. However, Co-founder Sally Berenzweig says: "It's not enough. Every child deserves the right to be safe, every child deserves the right to have a voice, every child deserves to know how to access help and all adults need to know the dangers and how to protect their children."
In the spirit of raising awareness of the epidemic of child abuse, KidSafe Foundation is holding its third annual "Cocktails for a Cause" on April 26 from 5:30-8 pm. The fundraiser is hosted by Boca's hottest new restaurant, The Red Steakhouse - Rosso, 1901 Military Trail, Boca Raton (attached to Wyndham Hotel). It's generously sponsored by Kennesaw Fruit and Juices, Herman Mermelstein & Horowitz PA, and Greenberg Traurig LLP. Guests will be provided with open bar, food, auction and raffle items, such as tickets to the popular television show The VOICE, 5 Star Hotel Stays, Exclusive Golf packages, and so much more.
All funds raised at "Cocktails for a Cause" will bring KidSafe Prevention Education Programs and KidSafe Children's Books -- including the 2011 Award winning book "My Body is Special and Belongs To ME!" and "Jack Teaches His Friends To Be KidSafe!" -- directly to South Florida schools, agencies and organizations.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. For more information, visit: www.kidsafefoundation.org/red/
Wendi Lipsich, District Director to Congressman Ted Deutch, and KidSafe Foundation Board Member state: "Hearing a KidSafe Presentation is life changing. You want to get involved when you see the difference KidSafe can make in the life of a child. KidSafe is saving children's lives and making our communities safer. I am beyond proud to serve on its board as nothing is more important than the safety of our children."
